Sunny Leone was born on May 13, 1981 in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, to a Punjabi Sikh family, and holds three nationalities: Indian, Canadian and American. Her father was born in Tibet and settled in Delhi, while her mother (who died in 2008) was from Srimaur, Himachal Pradesh. In her youth, Leon was an athlete, playing street hockey with the boys, and skating on frozen lakes. In 1996 her family moved from Ontario to Southern California and her parents enrolled her in a Catholic school even though they were Sikhs. There was Leon’s first kiss at the age of 11, and at the age of 13, Leon moved with her family to Michigan in the United States, then to Lake Forest, California, and lost her virginity at the age of 16, and in 1999 she graduated from high school and enrolled in college to study pediatrics in Orange California. She worked first in a German bakery and then in a tax and retirement company.
Sunny Leone began working in adult films while studying pediatrics, when a classmate introduced her to John Stevens, who introduced her to Jay Allen, who was a photographer for Penthouse Adults magazine, where she appeared. She is her real name, and the name Leon was chosen for her by the owner of Penthouse magazine. It has also been featured in many other adult magazines. Then she worked with some stars like Aria Giovanni, Jenna Jameson and Jelena Jenson.
In 2003, Leone signed a three-year contract with an adult film company, agreeing to perform only lesbian scenes. Her first film was released in December 2005. In May 2007, upon extending her contract for six more films, she agreed to perform for the first time with a man on camera, but stipulated that she only perform with her fiancé Matt Erickson. Sunny Leone was engaged to Playboy Ventures’ deputy marketing director Matt Erickson but broke up with him in 2008. She later dated comedian Russell Peters for a while. In 2011, she stated in a TV interview that she is married to Daniel Weber.
