Jessica Alba was born on April 28, 1981 in Pomona, California, United States. For Katherine Alba (her family name is Jensen) and Mark Alba. Her mother is of Danish and French-Canadian descent and her father is of Mexican American descent (both of her parents were born in California), and she has one younger brother, Joshua. Because of her father’s employment in the Air Force, the family moved to Biloxi, Mississippi, and Del Rio, Texas, before settling in California when Alba was nine years old. Alba had described herself as coming from a conservative Latin Catholic family and having been a feminist since the age of five.
Alba’s early life was marked by physical ailments and she was suffering from a collapsed lung, pneumonia 4-5 times a year, and a ruptured appendix and tonsil cysts. Alba was isolated from the other children at school because she was in the hospital and not many people knew her well enough. Alba had been suffering from asthma since her childhood. Her family’s frequent moving contributed to her isolation from her peers. She has also admitted that she suffered from obsessive-compulsive disorder during childhood. She graduated from high school at the age of 16, after which she entered the Atlantic Theater Company.
