Biography, Life story

Cheb Khaled was born on February 29, 1960 in Sidi El Houari, Oran, Algeria. He also holds French citizenship, and began recording his songs in his teens. Today he can be considered the most famous Arab singer internationally. At the age of fourteen, Khaled formed his first band under the name “Cinq étoiles”, meaning “the five-star band”, and began performing with the Ouza Boys, who taught him opinion through weddings and local nightclubs. He recorded his first single under the name “Trigue Lycée” (“The Road to High School”) at the same age and was soon influenced in the early 1980s by the changes in rai music that encouraged the addition of Western instruments and modern studio techniques.

In 1992 (please see the section on music in 1992) after he dropped the title “Cheb” from his name, Khaled released an album under his own name, and this album was the reason for his fame as a star in France and among Moroccan immigrants around the world. In the nineties, the number of his fans increased all over the world, and he collaborated with many hip-hop artists. Khaled achieved stardom in France, his native Algeria and the Arab world. His famous song Didi is a very popular song in Arabic-speaking countries, as well as in many other countries, including India and Pakistan. The song was also used in a Bollywood movie called “Sherman Asheq” and sold The album has millions of copies, including more than a million and a half in Europe only.

In 1999, he joined Khaled Rashid Taha and Faudel in a concert at the Palace of Omnispur de Paris Bercy entitled Suns 1, 2 and 3, which was later released as an album depicting the concert live. The album achieved great sales in France, America and the Arab world, where it sold more than five million copies.

And on the twelfth of July 2008, Khaled appeared in the Liverpool Orchestra Hall to participate in the Arab Arts Festival in Liverpool, as part of the celebration of “Liverpool: European Capital of Culture for the year 2008”.

In 2009, he released the album (Freedom), which achieved great success in Europe. The album achieved sales of more than three million copies in less than a month. Cheb Khaled is the best-selling Arab singer in France, America, Europe and India, until his sales link to Brazil, where he sold more than a quarter of a million. A version in which Cheb Khaled performed in a historic concert with the star Mohamed Mounir, where the attendance exceeded one hundred and thirty thousand spectators, which was an overwhelming success, as it was recorded as the highest attendance for this year and in the history of Arab singers.

The lyrics of Khaled’s songs have a political feature that supports women’s liberation and calls for more democracy. He is considered the first Arab artist who was able to deliver the Arabic song and bring it to the world, through the Algerian Rai song. One of the most important qualities of this artist is humility and simplicity. He contributed to the success of more than one artist, whether in Algeria or in the Arab world. He extended a helping hand to his young compatriot Fadil and the Lebanese Diana Haddad and the singer Omar Diab made duets with them without the slightest complications or arrogance from him and with the testimony of leading Arab artists. Rai Cheb Khaled is distinguished for you by the lightness and simplicity that most Arab artists lack today. This song record does not include the number of albums that were released on cassette tapes in Algeria at the beginning of his career. nor the number of unofficial albums.
