Biography, Life story

Bassem Youssef was born on March 21, 1974 in Cairo, the capital of Egypt. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in 1998 and obtained a doctorate in cardiothoracic surgery from Cairo University and is currently a faculty member at the Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University. He traveled to work in America and Europe for two and a half years in a medical device company that develops heart and lung transplant technology. He returned to Egypt to obtain his doctorate and then traveled to Germany to train in heart transplant surgeries and assistive devices for the heart muscle. He obtained a license to practice in the United States in 2005 and a fellowship of the British College of Surgeons in 2006. He became famous for presenting his program “The Program”, which simulates the American program (The Daily Show) presented by the satirical critic Jon Stewart.

In March 2011, Bassem Youssef showed episodes of his program “Bassem Youssef Show B+” on YouTube. Bassem used social media to appear, using just a table, a chair, one camera, and a mural containing photos taken by amateurs from Tahrir Square.

Soon, the Egyptian “On TV” channel offered Youssef a deal to produce a satirical political program called “The Program” and allocated a budget of nearly half a million dollars to him, making Youssef the first person in the Middle East to switch his program from the Internet to the television screen.
