Adele Laurie Blue Adkins was born on May 5, 1988 in Tottenham, North London. At the age of two, her father left her 20-year-old mother alone to raise her daughter. At the age of four, Adele started singing as she said she became obsessed with sounds. Adele was influenced by the Spice Girls to a great extent, and she said, “They made me who I am.” At dinner parties, Adele performed the songs of this band. Adele has stated that she was influenced by Etta James and Ella Fitzgerald’s music as well. At the age of eleven, Adele and her mother moved to Brixton, at which time she became interested in the music of R&B singers such as Alia, Mary J. Blige and Destiny’s Child.

Adele graduated from Brit School in Croydon in May 2006, with classmates Leona Lewis and Jesse J. Adele credits her school for nurturing her talent while she was a student at the school.
